  • Webtrepreneur.co.za link give-away

The Webtrepreneur has decided that he will be giving away a free advert placement on Webtrepreneur.co.za, under the Paid Adverts block, located at the top right of the sidebar on this site. Currently there are two adverts residing there, which have actually proved to be very popular click through links. Let me mention the click through averages of these two links:

Crush Calculator: Average of 30 click throughs a day.
Get a .co.za: Average of 20 click throughs a day.

These averages are fairly decent for a website, which has only been running for a month. So, based on the above, you can see that getting a link below those two would probably drive you some decent extra traffic. Then again, even if you only get one or two click throughs a day, it’s still an increase, and it cost you absolutely nothing.

How do you go about getting a placement here?

Simple. In order to fall into the draw for an advert placement, all you have to do is mention this on your blog, and leave a comment on this post saying that you have done so. There is an example of what you should be placing on your blog:

Learn to earn being a webtrepreneur is a website geared to teach bloggers and site authors how to make some extra money online. Webtrepreneur.co.za is giving away a free link, go take a look!”

I would like you to follow the above conventions, using the selected links I shown above, and usage of correct title tags. You may change the wording to fit in with your post accordingly, if you choose to do so.

I will run this for just over a week, and the winner will be announced on the website in one of my posts. The winner will be able to place a link under my paid adverts area on the right, and the advert will run for a minimum of a month. I will not look at any websites which involve racism, pornography or anything along those lines. I will only hold the draw if I receive a minimum of ten participants.

Go on, link back to me, leave a comment, it’s as simple as that!

    Wait! Don’t monetize yet

A common mistake made by bloggers and website authors is the rush to make money. Everyone who reads about making money with their blog, gets all excited and tries to hurry deep into the world of making money online, without thinking about the disadvantages of monetizing a site. We all know that a website covered in adverts is not appealing and often results in a snappy decision to try the next website in the queue. There are many things to take into consideration before placing adverts on your website, and I will mention a few below.

Directory Submission - Submitting your blog/website to an online directory is a great way to get inward links, and increase your traffic. The more directories you submit your website to, the higher your page rank will be. This said, many directories have a huge bias against accepting website strewn with adverts. If you start getting denied by directories, you will grow a bad name for your site, and this will influence your traffic heavily.

Reader Base - One of the best times to start monetizing a site, is when you already have a large reader base, of which many of the visitors and returners, which means that these people are interested in the content you are sharing, and will most probably not be put off by a few adverts placed carefully around the website. If you introduce adverts too soon, many readers will not remain loyal to your site, and rather look for another similar site, with less adverts.

Positioning - Before you can start placing adverts around and about on your website, it is important to have a look and see where the best placing will be. People follow trends, and there are certain areas which are signified with certain things. For example, most people recognise the header image of a site at the top left of the page, and similarily, most readers recognise a menu on the left hand side of the page. This is the same for adverts. You do want your adverts to be seen, but don’t want them placed in the same places as all websites, rather have a look at what your readers are most interested in, and place the adverts carefully around these areas, as this will increase your chances of click throughs. Placing adverts inbetween menu areas works really well, or placing adverts inline (within the content) is another successful method. (more…)

  • Help me, help you, please.

I have talked about reader interaction before on many occasions, and the importance of it. One of the features I mentioned was a Votting Poll. Voting polls can be used in many different ways, ranging from just random feedback to usable feedback.

I run a poll, located on the right of the website. This Poll is great, there are no popup windows, and it’s Ajax powered, which means that once you click to vote, the screen doesn’t refresh or anything. This feature is very important if you decide to choose to use a Poll on your website - there is nothing worse than clicking vote, and having things popup or having the whole website reload, it kills the user experience!

Anyway, the reason for my post it to ask that you use my poll please, I would like too see what articles everyone is enjoying, so I can concentrate on them. It’s really simple, choose your choice, click submit, the process takes 2seconds!

I hope to see many results :)

    Thanks
    The Webtrepreneur
